Aletha Becker

Aletha E. Becker, age 84, of Gilman, formerly of Peotone, passed away on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at Presence St. Mary’s Hospital in Kankakee.

She was born on October 10, 1933 in Danforth, the daughter of the late Irvin P. and Minnie (Saxsma) Cotter.  She worked for an insurance agency after high school until the time she married Marvin Becker when he returned from serving with the US Army in Korea.  She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Peotone, a former member of the Peotone Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary, served as secretary of the Slow Boys Tractor and Engine Club and as an officer for the TOPS club of Danforth.  Aletha was a homemaker, loved quilt making, sewing, gardening, and cooking and enjoyed travel and camping.

She is survived by her husband of almost 64 years, Marvin Becker of Gilman, who she married on May 15, 1954 at Danforth Reformed Church in Danforth, IL.  She is also survived by three children; Wayne M. (Linda S.) Becker of Gilman, Keith M. (Julie A.) Becker of Peotone, and Tamra Lynn Becker of Gilman; three grandchildren, Kimberly A. Becker, Kristina M. (James) Conrad, and Katherine M. (Tom) McNulty; three great-grandchildren, Natalie A. Greskoviak, Grace M. Wieck, and Declan L. Conrad; two sisters, Esther (Kenneth) McGehee of Gilman and Ruth Cotter of Gilman; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Norman and Russell Cotter.

Visitation will be held at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 21 from 3:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be held at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Peotone on Thursday, February 22 at 10:30 a.m., Rev. Dwight Gorbold officiating.  Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral services. Burial will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.  Memorials to the Family’s Wishes would be appreciated.  Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Ruhbeck, Kenneth Malone, William Malone, Douglas Smith, Tom McNulty, and James Conrad, and honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Hille, Cheryl Hille, James St. Peter, and Jennifer St. Peter.
