Betty (Krantz) Garrett of Peotone, formerly of Harvey, passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at her home.
She was born on April 21, 1935 in Harvey, IL. She graduated from Whittier Grade School and Thornton High School. Also, she was a graduate of Greenville University, Greenville, IL and Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, IL. She was a former member of “Kappa Delta PI”. She taught school for 32 years in Illinois and for 2 years in Germany for the Department of the Army.
She attended the Harvey-Monee Free Methodist Church for 74 years. She enjoyed serving as a Sunday School teacher, youth leader, choir member, willing worker, Stewards, Pastor Cabinet, and local Board of Administrators. Also she wrote and conducted Bible Schools, served as a pianist for the Christian music group, “The Connection”. She enjoyed writing Christian songs and stories. She loved God, relatives, and friends. She felt the joy of the Lord was her strength.
Betty is survived by her son, Paul (Missy) Garrett; Paula (Lee) Gertler; six grandchildren, Christopher Garrett, Phillip Garrett, Rebecca (Paul) Sabo, Brian (Katie) Gertler, Billy Gertler, and Ashlee Gertler; four nieces, Marilyn Zoeteman, Marcia (Gary) Marchi, Suzzanne (Tony) Cervantes, Aimee (John) Maxedon; four nephews, John (Linda) Keith, Greg (Dawn) Krantz, James Krantz, and Fred (Jeannette) Tetreault; a brother-in-law, Fred Tetreault; great-nieces and great-nephews, Nick, Evan, Danny, Lane, Taylor, and Caedan Cervantes, John “Duke” Keith, Becky (Rocky) Clark, Jennifer Keith, Jeff (Diane) Zoetman, Peter and Adam Marchi, Brett (Chanel) Krantz, Brandon Krantz, and extremely special Ben and Gracie Maxedon.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Helen (Slover) Krantz; two sisters, Virginia (John) Keith and Sharon Tetreault; a brother, Donald (Linda) Krantz; and a nephew, Jonathan Krantz.
Visitation will be held at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home on Saturday, May 25 from 2:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. with a funeral service being held at 5:00 p.m, Pastor Kevin DeVries officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded following all services. Memorials to the family’s wishes would be appreciated.
