Betty Murray

Betty R. Murray, age 86, of Manteno; formerly of the Peotone-Frankfort area where she and her husband, Gene, raised their family; passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Clarendale of Mokena.

She was born on June 23, 1932 in Chicago, the daughter of the late Ray and Jean (Ingersoll) Kessey.  She married the late Eugene (Gene) F. Murray Sr. on September 16, 1950.  He passed away on November 15, 2007.  Betty was active in the horse industry for many years and enjoyed the farm.  She retired from the Peotone 207U School District after working many years as a librarian and computer aide.  Following retirement, she volunteered at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.  She was a member of St. George Catholic Church in Bourbonnais and loved to sew and knit.

She is survived by four children; Dale (Jake) Jacobsen of Bourbonnais, Rae Ann (Mickey) Sikula of McHenry, Randy (Joann) Murray of Peotone, and Bobbi Kelley of Manteno; grandchildren, Jennifer (Marty) Dore, Julie (Chuck) Courville, Jason (Al) Murray, Jackie (Fred) Murray, Natalie (Adam) Overacker, Michelle (Ben) March, Ben (Ashley) Murray, Randy Jr. (Lauren) Murray, Kathryn (Cole) Jacobsen, and Joe Kelley; great-grandchildren, Sara, Trent, Emma, Sean, Bianca, Paytin, Parker, Ashton, Giovanni, Claire, Avery, and Zane; a sister, Judy (Bud) Cameron; and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Rocky Murray; a great-grandson, Josh; and a sister, Joann Smith.

Visitation will be held at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home on Monday, November 19 from 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.  A funeral mass will be held at St. George Catholic Church, 5250 5000 N. Rd., Bourbonnais, IL on Tuesday, November 20 at 12:00 p.m., Father Dan Belanger officiating.  Burial will take place at Peotone Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the family’s wishes.
