Bob "Rudy" Welsh

 Bob “Rudy” Welsh, age 84, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2024, at his home in Peotone, IL.

 He was born on October 16, 1940, in Joliet, IL, the son of the late George and Ruth (Lawrence) Welsh. He married Nancy Johnson on September 16, 1960, at the Peotone United Methodist Church. Bob was the owner of Johnson’s Greenhouses in Peotone. It was there that he meticulously grew plants and flowers of all kinds. When he wasn’t in the greenhouse, he was out delivering flowers. He said everyone was always happy to see him because who doesn’t like to get flowers. He would help anyone in need and never met a stranger. His smile and contagious laugh will be missed by all. He was a past 30-year member of the Peotone Volunteer Fire Department retiring at the rank of Captain. Bob loved the outdoors, especially traveling to Whitefish Lake in Stone Lake, WI. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, mowing the lawn, and tinkering around in the greenhouse. He loved spending time with his family, especially looking forward to golf cart rides with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bob was a long-time member of a Wednesday night group that gathered to play cards. He also played golf for many years with the Thursday night Green Garden golf league. 

 Bob is survived by his loving wife of 64-years, Nancy (Johnson) Welsh; his 4 children, Robyn (Jim) Flanders of Chicago, IL, Sherri (Glenn) Clarke of Beverly Shores, IN, Robert S. (Christine) Welsh of Lake Village, IN, and Kimberly (Brett) Veltman of Peotone, IL; 11 grandchildren, Olyvia Flanders, Sean (Karissa) Clarke, Kevan (Angelina) Clarke, Emily Clarke, Madalyn Clarke, Andrew (Ashley) Welsh, Danielle (Logan) Battaglia, Allison (Joshua) Fraser, Brianna Veltman, Jacob Veltman, and Jennalyn (Evan) Cufr; 9 great-grandchildren with another on the way; a sister, Shirley (Lenny) Arnold of Martinton, IL; 2 brothers, Larry (Deanna) Welsh and Harry (Bev) Welsh both of Peotone; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

 Visitation will be held at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home on Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 9:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. with a funeral service being held at 12:30 p.m., Dan Gromala officiating. Interment will take place at Peotone Cemetery. Feel free to wear your flannel apparel in memory of Bob. Memorials may be made to the wishes of the family.
