Candis Carey

Candis M. Carey, age 51, of Peotone, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2015 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.
A memorial visitation will be held at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home on Monday, May 4 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 4 at the funeral home at 8:00 p.m., Deacon Jim Kelly officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded.
Candis was born on June 16, 1963 in Chicago. She was an eleven year survivor of a severe brain injury defying all odds. She walked, she talked; and with all odds against her became very high functioning. In a group setting she was able to find a new purpose in life by helping care for a gentleman with Alzheimer’s disease who she said reminded her of her father. She loved life, loved to laugh, and was full of passion. The gift from her brain surgery left her forever young in the hearts of those who loved and cared for her.
She is survived by a sister, Laura Walsh; a dear friend; Pamela Lewis; numerous nieces and nephews; and two special care givers, Juliana and Val.
She was preceded in death by her father, George Grages Sr.; her loving sister, Linda (Grages) White; and her brother, George Grages Jr.
