Carol Van Arkel, age 74, of Peotone, passed away with dignity after battling cancer on Monday, August 14, 2023, at home surrounded in her last days by her family and loved ones. She was a special person to so many people; very spiritual, kind, and loving.
She was the daughter of Donald and Cecil Van Arkel who both predeceased her. She is survived by her daughters, Cara (Mike) Grant of Chicago and Gina (Steve) Proper of Chicago and was the proud “Nana” to her grandchildren, Lilly, Maura, Megan, and Rose Grant and Gavin Proper. She is survived by her brother, William Van Arkel of Chicago; and her sisters, Janet (Neil) Linehan of Chicago and Debra Richards of Chicago. She is also survived by her partner, Steve Tongren of Peotone.
Carol was a graduate of Mother McAuley Liberal Arts School. She had a diversified work history including being a gifted caregiver, selling boom lifts, a designer-decorator (furniture/set maker for the film “Dennis the Menace”), a licensed esthetician and beautician, massage therapist and Reiki master, and an accomplished and juried watercolor, oil, and pastel artist.
There will be a memorial mass in her honor at St. Germaine Catholic Church, 9711 S. Kolin Ave., Oak Lawn, IL on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. Share a memory at www.feddehelfrichcrossfh.com
