Charles Burger

Charles W. Burger, age 80, of Peotone, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2016 at Momence Meadows Nursing Center in Momence, IL.

He was born on September 7, 1935 in Chicago, IL, the son of the late William and Grace (Inman) Burger. He retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service in 1973 at the rank of Technical Sergeant receiving numerous commendations throughout his career. He was stationed at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, IL at the time of his retirement. Following his retirement from the Air Force, he worked at Johnson & Johnson in University Park where he was very active in the union. After Johnson & Johnson relocated, he worked for Nabisco until he retired. He loved to fish, hunt, and all other outdoor activities including working in his yard and gardening.

He is survived by his wife Martha A. (Smith) Burger who he married on August 18, 1957 in Shawsville, VA. He is also survived by two children; Tracey A. (James M.) Sulzberger of Peotone and David A. (Dr. Kimberly R.) Burger of North Carolina; four grandchildren, Lindsey Sulzberger, James Sulzberger Jr., Dr. Ashley (Jeremy) Prejean, and Lauren Burger; two great-grandchildren, Chance Burger and Gage Prejean; one brother, William (Patricia) Burger of Orland Park; one sister, Suzanne (Dennis) Johnson of Ocala, FL; one sister-in-law, Gloria Burger; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Joseph Burger; and one sister, Barbara Dedic.

Military honors and committal services will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Forest South Animal Hospital, 24341 Western Ave, University Park, IL 60484 would be appreciated.
