Charles “Charlie” Edward Patton passed away on December 6th, 2024 at the age of 82. He was born on November 12, 1942 in Parsons, KS. The son of Bernice “Bev” (Krapf) and Marvin Peplow, Charles spent much of his childhood with his grandparents, Mary and Charles Krapf, so he could be close to the family farm.
Charles was a man of many passions and accomplishments. A lifetime farmer, he poured his heart into the land and took immense pride in the work and legacy of farming. From 1978 to 1985, Charles served his community as a member of the Frankfort Fire Protection District Board of Trustees. Additionally, he was a long-standing member of the Will County Fair Board, where he contributed thirteen years as Vice President.
A dedicated family man, Charles cherished his role as a husband, father, and papa, beaming with pride over his grandchildren’s achievements and always eager to spend time with them. Known for his sweet tooth, he delighted in chocolate chip cookies made by his daughter and grandchildren.
Charles' sense of duty extended beyond his family and farm. As a proud Army Reservist, he served his country with honor and maintained a deep respect for those who serve. He found joy in simple traditions, especially attending the annual Will County Fair Tractor Pull, a highlight of his year and a cherished community event.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Earline (Welsh) Patton; his 2 children, Mike Patton of Peotone, Amy (Jason) Bade of Naperville; 4 grandchildren, Tucker (Catalina) Bade, Peyton (Ross Snead) Bade, Camden Bade, Parker Bade; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Rhett Langman.
A visitation will be held at Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home on Monday, December 16, 2024, from 3:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. with a funeral service following at 7:00 p.m., Rev. Terry Krouskoupf officiating.
Memorials may be made to the wishes of the family.
