Clarence H. Cowen, age 85, of Monee, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at his home.
He was born on April 3, 1930 in Tinley Park, IL, the son of the late Harold L. and Ethel (Willie) Cowen. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Monee. He was a Korean War Air Force Veteran, the former police chief of Monee and also served as a commissioner for the village. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed auto racing, and loved to watch his grandchildren play sports.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene (Arnold) Cowen who he married on March 17, 1956 in Tinley Park. He is also survived by a son, Steven L. (Ellen) Cowen of Manteno; a daughter, Kimberly (Erik) Halverson of Peotone; nine grandchildren, Brian, Alex, Kimberly, Ashley, Alyssa, Justin (Mimi), Jesse, Erika, and Jack; two great-grandchildren, Rocky and Mila; one brother, Edward (Margo) Cowen of New Mexico; two nephews, Charles and David; a daughter-in-law, Cindy (Bruce) Fehland of Peotone; a brother-in-law, Gilbert Klier of Crystal Falls, MI; and a niece, Betty Anderson of Crystal Falls, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Scott Cowen; and a sister, Bernice Klier
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Monee. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Pastor Peggy Johnson officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded.
