Clyde Love

December 27, 1938 — September 2, 2018

Clyde R. Love, age 79, of Manteno, formerly of Peotone, passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2018 at Riverside Miller Rehabilitation Center in Kankakee.

A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, September 6 from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 311 W. Corning Ave., Peotone, IL where he was a lifelong member.  A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 6 at 12:00 p.m., Rev. John Billow and Nancy Wheeler officiating.  Cremation rites have been accorded.  Private inurnment services will be held at Peotone Cemetery at a later date.  Memorials to the family’s wishes would be appreciated.

Clyde is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia (Rehberg) Love who he married on March 1, 1958 in Kankakee.  Together they had three children; Gary, Lori and Bob.  He is survived by his daughter; Lori (Joe) Toepper of Manteno; his son, Bob (Mike Cwiok) Love of Chicago; and his daughter-in-law, Susan Love of Peotone.  He was preceded in death by his son and best friend, Gary Love, on April 22, 2015.  He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, April (Geremy) Adams, Aaron (Dawn) Love, Grant (Areli) Love, Amy (Eric) Cameron, Adam (Tiffany) Toepper, Ben (Brittney) Love, Jessica (Damien) Irby; 8 great-grandchildren, Logan, Posie, Jared, Tyler, Kaylee, Lorne, Ira, and Oliver; a brother, Sam (Mary) Love of Manteno; a sister, Joan (David) Cedron of Mountain Home, AR; and numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clyde L. Love; his mother, Wilma Love Schuck; his son, Gary Love; and a brother, Leslie Love.

He was born on December 27, 1938 in Bourbonnais, IL. He was a lifelong member of Immanuel United Church of Christ where he was a past Senior Elder and Superintendent of Sunday School.  While serving as Senior Elder he was instrumental in implementing the organ referendum which lead to the installation of the new pipe organ.  He also was a member of the church’s dartball team.  He drove a gravel truck for 45 years retiring in 2004 and was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 786.  He loved to hunt and fish.  He was a talented woodworker and made numerous pieces of furniture for his family.  He enjoyed restoring his father’s 1950 Case Tractor along with his son, Gary, and they participated in many tractor rides and shows together.  Clyde was well known for his ability to tell a joke.  No one could tell a joke better than him.  A happier, more friendly person you will never meet.  If you knew him, then you were his friend.  He will be greatly missed by many, many people.
