Donald Albert Batdorf, 85, of Peotone, formerly of Thornton, died Saturday (Feb. 9, 2013) at his home. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. Tuesday until the 8 p.m. funeral service at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home, Peotone. The Rev. John Billow will officiate. Interment will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Peotone Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family wishes. Mr. Batdorf worked at Western Electric for more than 40 years. He was born Nov. 9, 1927, in St. Louis, Mo., the son of Carl and Alma (Kotila) Batdorf. He was a member of the Village Church of Dyer, Ind. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the Bloomington American Legion Post. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed working on automobiles. He was a Chicago Bears fan. Surviving are his wife, the former Verda Millis, of Peotone, whom he married Sept. 29, 1956, in Chicago; two daughters, Donna (Jim) Heber, and Karin (Richard) Dennis, all of Peotone; one grandson, Michael Heber; and one brother, Jon (JoAnn) Batdorf, of Naperville. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jeffrey L. Batdorf (July 4, 2009); and one sister, Betty Kidd.
