Edwin Legge, age 86, of Rural Peotone, died Sunday, February 2, 2014 at VITAS Hospice of Franciscan St. James Hospital, Chicago Heights.

He was born December 5, 1927 in Chelsea, MA, the son of the late Walter and Georgina (Brown) Legge. He graduated from and was an active alumnus of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. He was a Korean Conflict veteran of the US Navy holding the rank of LT JG. He was a Master Mason for 64 years, a 32nd degree Mason Scottish Rite, and a member of the Shriners International. He was a retired insurance surplus lines broker, most recently with Avreco, Inc. He married the late Dorothy “Dottie” C. (Cousineau) Legge (July 17, 2002) on June 30, 1951 in Long Beach, CA. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Christopher; and a son, Matthew Legge.

Mr. Legge is survived by a son, Andrew Legge of Jacksonville, FL; a daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne (Paul) Miller of Mokena; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Legge of Elizabeth, CO; 5 grandchildren, Shaun (Erin) Legge of Sandwich, Valerie (Donald) Adkins of Plainfield, Christopher Lynch of Newport Beach, CA, Stephen (Lyndsey) Lynch of Fountain, CO, and Alicia Legge of Elizabeth, CO; 7 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Gertrude Shea of Naples, FL and Isabel Davis of Georgetown, MA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation 3 p.m. until the hour of services and military honors at 8 p.m. Friday, February 7, 2014, at Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home in Peotone, with Rev. Chris Hopkins officiating. Cremation rites will be accorded with interment at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Shriners Children’s Hospital would be appreciated.
