Elizabeth A. “Betty” Knickrehm, age 93, of Peotone, passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 4, 1931, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Besowshek) Rittmanic. She married Dale Robert Joseph Knickrehm on February 3, 1951, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bradley, IL. He passed away on November 27, 2017.
She worked as a full-time mom to five children and many others in the neighborhood. She provided food for any that entered under her roof and many others in the church and community as needs arose. She was a dental assistant, transcriptionist, bookkeeper, Registered Nurse, teacher in the nursing lab, and preceptor. She was a gardener, seamstress, painter, musician playing the piano and violin, a cook, a baker and a friend. She was active in the CCW, a lector, an extraordinary Eucharistic Minister, and attended Mass daily. She worked long hours to fill the needs of others whether it was baking or cooking food or sewing wedding and brides’ maids’ dresses. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved serving others and it was evident that she loved our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
She is survived by her children, Stephen (Renee) Knickrehm, Ronald (Gail) Knickrehm, Mary (Rich) Rogers, Cynthia (Timothy) Reed, and Elizabeth M. “Liz” (John) Meaney; 20 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild on the way; 2 sisters, Patricia (the late Joe) Rittmanic, and Mary Frances (Jack) Cooper; a brother-in-law, Ed McMains; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother and sister-in-law, George and Ruth Rittmanic; a brother, James Rittmanic; a sister and brother-in-law, Marlene and Mike Setticasi; and a sister, Lenore McMains. Visitation will be held at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Peotone on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., Father Thomas Milota officiating. Private burial will be at All Saints Cemetery in Bourbonnais. In lieu of flowers, memorials to masses, St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church or Helping Hands Food Pantry would be appreciated.
