Gary Anthony Metke, age 80, of Beecher, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2019 at Joliet Area Community Hospice.
He was born on June 21, 1938 in Massillon, OH, the son of the late Anthony and Ruth (Royer) Metke. He was a United States Air Force veteran and then worked for 30 years as an electronic technician for Metra. He enjoyed sports cars, antique auto shows, and sailing his boat, the Endurance. He was a member of the NRA and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his former wife, LaVerne Low of Peoria; five children, Helen Metke of Manteno, Renee (Stephen) Knickrehm of Beecher, Eric (Kathy) Metke of Wilmington, Karl (Lori) Metke of Piper City, and Shawn Metke of Peoria; and his grandchildren, Nichole Grindler, Anthony (Keirston) Grindler, Steven Doig, Kyle Metke, Kaleb Metke, Chase Metke, Connor Metke, Amanda Metke, and Samantha Metke.
Visitation will be held at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home on Thursday, May 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Funeral services will be held at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home on Thursday, May 9 at 10:00 a.m., Deacon Milt Leppert officiating. Interment and military honors will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL.
