George Amir

George T. Amir, age 85, formerly of Peotone, passed away with his two daughters at his side on Monday, January 7, 2013 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Manteno, IL, following a long illness. A memorial service will be held at the Illinois Veterans Home Chapel in Manteno on Sunday, January 20, 2012 at 12:00 p.m., followed by refreshments. Memorials to the Illinois Veterans Home and VITAS Hospice would be appreciated. Mr. Amir loved his family. He enjoyed dining out and visiting with friends over a good cup of coffee. He was a World War II Navy Veteran, a lifetime member of the Peotone American Legion Post 392, and was retired from AT&T Illinois Bell. He was born in Chicago on May 28, 1927, the son of the late John and Helen (McDevitt) Amir. He married the late Eleanore (Weiss) Amir on February 26, 1952 in Chicago. They had been married 52 years when she passed away on January 22, 2004. He is survived by two daughters and son-in-laws, Christine (David) Riechers of Beecher and Lisa (Michael) Koehn of Bradley; two grandchildren, Andrea and Erik of Milford; a brother, Bill of California, a sister-in-law, Virginia (Bunnie) Amir of Frankfort; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Debbie; 2 sisters, Eileen and Patricia; a brother, Stephen; and a sister-in-law, Kate. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial will be at a later date in Peotone Cemetery.
