Gerald R. Misner, 72, of Bourbonnais, formerly of Peotone, died Tuesday (March 12, 2013) at Presence Heritage Village in Kankakee. Memorial visitation will be from 4 p.m. Friday until the 7 p.m. memorial service at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home, Peotone. The Rev. John Billow will officiate. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial will take place at a later date in Riverside Cemetery, Attica, Ind. Memorials may be made to the family wishes.
Mr. Misner was a mechanical engineer for TTX Co. in Chicago. He was born Nov. 25, 1940, in Attica, the son of Robert and Eva Stiever Misner. He was the inventor of a new air-brake system for rail cars. He loved his dogs, Rambo and Gizmo.
Surviving are his wife, the former Pat Matthies, of Bourbonnais, whom he married Dec. 29, 1984, at Immanuel United Church of Christ, Peotone; three daughters, Porsha (Donald) Lawless, Pam (Marc) Schrock and Paige Hawlet; eight grandchildren, one stepgrandson and two great-grandchildren; one stepson, Brent (Kris) Harms, of Manteno; mother-in-law, Hilda Matthies, of Peotone; brother-in-law, William H. (Bonnie) Matthies, of Peotone; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Elaine Krimbrel; and his father-in-law, Herbert W. Matthies.
