James “Jim” A. Petreikis, Sr., age 79, of Peotone, passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at Lightways Hospice in Joliet, IL.
He was born on May 18, 1944, in Chicago, IL, the son of Joseph Petreikis, Sr. and Sophie (Baranauskas) Petreikis. Jim, a Peotone resident for over 60 years, graduated from PHS in 1962. After school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard. Returning to Peotone, Jim became a member of the Peotone American Legion Post 392 and worked as a Peotone Police auxiliary officer. Enjoying the challenges of business, Jim went on to own and operate Jim’s Body Shop (Peotone) for over 35 years. During this time, he was also the owner of Peotone Lincoln Mercury. With his leadership, the business won several sales and service awards. Although Jim retired in 2000, he was not a good “retired” person. He went on to own S and J Rental Mini Storage, J and J Maintenance and was the purveyor of the “Barron's Machine". Jim loved spending time with family and friends, hunting, fishing, and golf. When Jim couldn’t be in Three Lakes, WI, he was looking forward to his next trip up there!
Jim married the love of his life, Sandy (Rokus) Petreikis in 1967. They had 55 years of shared love together and raised their three boys. Jim is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law; Jim (Cathy) Petreikis, Jr., Tony (Laura) Petreikis, and Chris (Tara) Petreikis; his grandchildren, Brittany (Ryan) Dahlberg, Grant Petreikis, Garrett Petreikis, Kaylee Petreikis, Nathan Petreikis, Nicholas Petreikis, Emma Petreikis, and Hudson Petreikis; a great-grandson, Brady Dahlberg; a sister-in-law, Charmaine Petreikis; his niece/goddaughter, Kim Petreikis Wallace; and special friend and “adopted” son, Phil Ashline.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Sandy Petreikis (May 13, 2022); and his brother, Joseph Petreikis, Jr.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial visitation will be held at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home on Friday, August 4, 2023, from 1:00 p.m.-5:30 p.m. with memorial service and military honors held at 5:30 p.m., Deacon Jim Kelly officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Lightways Hospice, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, IL 60431 or https://lightways.org
