June Bernadine O'Flynn
June Bernadine O’Flynn, aged 91, passed away on May 1, 2024, in her home. She was a well-loved mother, stepmother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, friend and neighbor who will be missed by all.
June was born on June 15, 1932, in Chicago. IL to parents Marie (Barth) and William Thorsen. She grew up with brother Dr William Thorsen on near northside of Chicago attending St Michael’s and Francis W Parker schools. She learned to use a Graphotype while working with her father to distribute the American Book Collector Magazine. After high school she attended the National College of Education in Evanston, IL prior to her working at Lion’s International and Eversharp. She married Robert Flannery in 1954 and resided in Detroit while he finished graduate school before returning to Illinois and living in Park Forest and Olympia Fields.
She married William O’Flynn in 1989, and the couple moved to Peotone in 1997. They enjoyed spending time with friends and family and traveling. Their marriage added many bonus children and grandchildren to her life.
More than anything, June was a loving mother, wife, daughter, grandmother and friend to many. She was devoted to the Lord and to her church family, most recently attending St Paul the Apostle Church in Peotone. She enjoyed bowling and playing bridge, cards, bunco and Rummikub. She also enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren, her dogs Muffin and Sugar, flowers and plants, birds, shopping for a bargain, eating sweets with lots of whipped cream, McDonalds Iced Coffee, Starbucks Frappuccinos, the Hallmark Channel, spending time with friends, and meeting new people. She attended milestone events for family and friends and occasionally liked a glass of wine or southern comfort Manhattan. She always provided encouragement to friends and family by sending a card, visiting, calling and praying.
June is survived by her brother, Dr William Thorsen, daughter, Joan Harold (Len), Son-in-law, David Staton, Grandchildren: Michael Staton (Kristin), Kristin Staton-Heit (Dan), Claire Jones (Brian), Hailey VanAndel (Aaron), and Jillian DiClemente (Jon), Great Grandchildren: Louise, Millie and Hattie Jones, Jaymes and Weslee VanAndel, Theo and Rosie DiClemente, and Reid and Liesl Staton. Bonus Children: Michael O’Flynn (Christine), Greg O’Flynn, Ellen Stuart (Jim), Mary Fitzgerald (Mark), Bonus Grandchildren: Meghan Quinn (Kevin), John Fitzgerald (Kelly), Stephanie Summers (Dave), Vivian Fitzgerald, Patrick Stuart (Elaine), Kevin Stuart (Elissa), Madeline Hennessy (Tim), Cole Stuart (Brittany), Alyssa Kelly (Chris), Ryan Anderson (Lisa), and Neal Anderson (Stephanie), And bonus Great Grandchildren: Annie, Robbie and Molly Fitzgerald, Jimmy Hennessy, Emma Stuart, Sloane and Aurora Stuart, Kyle and Jordan Anderson, Kailey, Maya, and Jonathan Anderson and Colin Kelly. She also leaves behind many wonderful friends from all parts of her life including her good friend and devoted caregiver, Grace Verkler. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Flannery and William O’Flynn and by her daughter, Kathleen Staton.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm-8:00 pm Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home in Peotone, IL. Due to the ongoing road construction, Main Street will be closed to traffic. The sidewalks in front of the funeral home will be open and access may be made through the front door. Additional parking will be available in the parking lot of Christ Community Church, 103 W. Corning Ave., Peotone, IL. Entrance then can be made through the back door of the funeral home. A visitation will be held Thursday May 9th, 2024 at St Paul The Apostle Catholic Church, 511 N Conrad St, Peotone, IL 60468 from 9:00 AM till 10:20 AM with a funeral mass starting at 10:30 AM, burial will follow at Calvery Catholic Cemetery in Steger, IL. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in memory of June to St Paul the Apostle Church and Lightways Hospice.
