Mary Jane Peterman

Mary Jane Peterman, age 71, of Monee, IL, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at her home.

She was born on July 12, 1953 in Evergreen Park, IL, the daughter of the late Francis and Margaret (O’Malley) Murphy.

Mary Jane is survived by her husband of 43 years, Bill Peterman; her children, Matthew (Danielle) Peterman, Laura (Donald) Schwer, and Devin (Ashley) Peterman; her grandchildren, Eliza and Isla Peterman, Emery, Colin, and Donald Schwer with another grandson expected in May; her brothers and sisters, Frank (Peggy) Murphy, Marty (Donna) Murphy, Eileen (Mike) O’Shea, Maureen (Joe) Meno, Pat (Maureen) Murphy, Tim (Kathy) Murphy, Mike (Noreen) Murphy, John Murphy, Margie (Joe) Leahy, Tom (Mary Beth) Murphy, and Brian (Marie) Murphy; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Jane studied nursing at Moraine Valley Community College. Throughout her 45-year career as a Practical and Registered Nurse, she cared for many patients, including the elderly in nursing facilities and private residences. She went far and beyond for the care of her patients, often bringing them thoughtful gifts in order to encourage their hobbies and interests.

Mary Jane loved tending her beautiful garden, constructing and caring for her fish pond, creating intricate pieces of art, including stained glass and crochet pieces. She loved completing puzzles, listening to music, and sharing stories over a nice cup of tea. In the community, she could often be found at the library, driving slowly looking at houses, and chatting up anyone lucky enough to cross her path. Mary Jane loved to dream up her own good luck sayings in order to spread well wishes to others in all circumstances, everything meant good luck in her eyes. Above all, she cherished spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial visitation will be held at the

Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home in Peotone, IL, on Friday, March 7, 2025, from 3:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. A nurse's honor guard service will be held at 7:00 p.m.  Memorials may directed to the wishes of the family.
