Milan “Fuzzy” Schroeder, age 92, of Peotone, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.
He was born on April 9, 1926 in Peotone, the son of the late Harry Schroeder and Clara (Klemme) Schroeder Bate. Fuzzy was a graduate of Peotone High School, a United States Marine Corps Veteran, and the owner of Trader Schroeder Dodge dealership in Peotone from 1947-2005. He was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Peotone and the Peotone American Legion Post 392. He was an avid Chicago White Sox fan his entire life. He enjoyed auto racing and raced midgets in the early 1950’s and was an avid lover of music, especially jazz. Fuzzy had a great sense of humor and always had an interesting story to tell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of 32 years, Virginia Grubb Schroeder; his second wife of almost 25 years, Bobbie Usery Schroeder; a step-daughter, Debbie Usery Dillon; a brother-in-law, Lyle Carstens; his step-father, Lloyd E. Bate; and his step-brother-in-law, Harry Deboer.
Fuzzy is survived by a loving extended family including his wife, Joyce Anderson Schroeder who he married on January 14, 2016; his children, Kenton Schroeder of Minneapolis, MN, Cindy (John) Zybak of Lillian, AL, and Cecelia Buckner (Mike Kirby) of Denver, CO; his grandchildren, Stan Schroeder, Danielle (Heath) Brolsma, Lauren Schroeder, Andrea (Tony) Fewkes, Gregory (Alison) Zybak, Christopher Buckner, and Erik (Brandy) Buckner; his great-grandchildren, Tanner and Ryley Schroeder, Rachel and Will Brolsma, Jack and Owen Schroeder, Hannah and Madilyn Fewkes, Piercen Zybak, Aiden and Micah Buckner, and Daysha and Kole Buckner; a sister, Bonnie Carstens; a step-brother, Don (Lorna) Bate; and a step-sister, Alice Deboer. He is also survived by six step-children, Danna (Rick) Thayer, Karen (David) Cobb, David (Pam) Usery, Jim (Rhonda) Usery, Vicki (Greg) Miller, and Tom Dillon; 11 step-grandchildren; 15 step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 13 from 3:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home on Thursday, March 14 at 11:00 a.m., Pastor Terry Krouskoupf and Nancy Wheeler officiating. Burial will be at Peotone Cemetery. Memorials to Immanuel United Church of Christ, the Peotone Paramedics, or Peotone American Legion Post 392 would be appreciated.
