On September 5, 2021, Nancy Sue Johnson, age 75, got her wings and went to walk with the angels. She is finally at peace.
She was born on May 16, 1946 in Peotone, Illinois. Sue is the daughter of Ervel O. and Catherine R. (Lientz) Pattengale. She married Robert Lee Johnson on July 18, 1964 at The First United Presbyterian Church of Peotone. Robert passed away on April 10, 2019.
As a hometown girl, Sue always worked locally. She began her early years as a waitress, bookkeeper, also worked for a local catering service with many of her girlfriends (always looked forward to the wedding cake leftovers!) She briefly worked at Johnson’s Greenhouse and then returned to waitressing. She got to know many folks and their families. One day she was approached with a new opportunity to work for Edward Jones, which she happily made a career of for 16 years as a Branch Office Administrator until she retired. She was well liked by her Financial Advisors and the Clients.
Sue’s passions were going on her daily walks. She loved her dogs and grand dogs. She loved to shop and loved going to Shipshewana. She was an excellent gift giver and loved her Antiques. She always liked to drink coffee with friends and attend her high school reunions. In the spring, she always looked forward to planting flowers and tomatoes. She was a Chicago Bears fan. Her favorite player was Walter Payton. Sue never met a bakery she did not like. She was an excellent baker. She was famous for her Kolaczki cookies at Christmas time. She made endless batches of chocolate pudding that sometimes she would not share! Most importantly, she loved her family. She was a pillar of strength for us. The light of her life, her sunshine, was her Granddaughter Jenna. Our mother will be missed greatly.
She is survived by her children, Tracy (Dan) Cannon, her son Dave (Loan) Johnson, granddaughter Jenna Johnson. Two brothers Darwin Pattengale and David (Dawn) Pattengale. Sister In laws Barbara (LaVerne) Leuelling, Marsha (Richard) Karstensen, and Walter “Corky” (Carla) Johnson; several nieces and nephews, Gary (Nancy Weinger) Pattengale, Deanna Pattengale-Rizzo, Brian (Michelle) Pattengale, Dustin (Rebecca) Pattengale and Tyler Pattengale, Nick (Emily) Karstensen and Jennifer (Jason) Reynolds.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and one brother Robert Pattengale.
