Oliver Lawrence

Oliver L. Lawrence, age 85, of Peotone, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.

He was born April 19, 1930 in Wilton Township, the son of the late George and Charlotte (Oliver) Lawrence. He was a member and former trustee of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Peotone. He was a US Army Veteran and a member of the Peotone American Legion Post 392. He loved spending time with his family and being involved in his grandchildren’s lives. He enjoyed being outside, especially working in his yard. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Chicago White Sox.

He is survived by his wife, Colette S. (Carstens) Lawrence, who he married on July 26, 1952 at Immanuel United Church of Christ in Peotone. He is also survived by a son, Steve (Pam) Lawrence of Grant Park; a daughter, Linda (Vince) Vogel of Peachtree, GA; and four grandchildren, Jeff Lawrence, Mark Lawrence, Vanessa Vogel, and Luke Vogel.

Visitation will be held at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home on Sunday, July 12 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Peotone on Monday, July 13 at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Dwight Gorbold and Nancy Wheeler officiating. There will be visitation at the church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. prior to service. Burial will be at Peotone Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Immanuel United Church of Christ or the donor’s choice would be appreciated.
