Philip J Stoner

      With a heavy heart, we bid farewell to Philip “Phil” Stoner.  Born and raised in Peotone, IL, Phil’s heart belonged to the Windy City sports scene, cheering passionately for the Chicago Blackhawks and the legendary 1985 Chicago Bears.  Phil pursued studies in agriculture at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana.   While outwardly reserved, those fortunate enough to share his company discovered a quick wit and a penchant for dark humor.   Phil’s competitive spirit meant he was the reigning Stoner family Tetherball, Royal Rummy, and River Raid champion.  To celebrate Phil’s memory is to indulge in the simple pleasures he enjoyed:  a slice of Chicago style pizza, a cold beer, an episode of the Sopranos.  Phil’s spirit lives on in those who knew and loved him.

      A visitation will be held at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home on Monday, April 22, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with a funeral service being held at 12:00 p.m., Rev. Terry Krouskoupf officiating.  Due to the ongoing road construction, Main Street will be closed to traffic.  The sidewalks in front of the funeral home will be open and access may be made through the front door.  Additional parking will be available in the parking lot of Christ Community Church, 103 W. Corning Ave., Peotone, IL.  Entrance then can be made through the back door of the funeral home.  Burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, North Peotone.
