Roger Allen Mausehund, 69, of Smyrna, DE, died on April 17, 2018 following a long illness. He was born on August 31, 1948 to Raymond and Dorothy (Kaack) Mausehund of Peotone. He is survived by his wife Jean; stepsons, Brian (Anna Marie) Mincey and John Moncey; step-daughter, Evelyn Gonser; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gary and Mike Mausehund; one sister, Donna Johnson; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was beloved “Opa” to the grandchildren.
Roger grew up on a farm outside of Peotone and graduated from Peotone High School in 1966. He graduated from Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, in 1970. He served three years in the U.S. army and then began his teaching career at Leyden High School in Rosemont, IL. While teaching he earned a Master’s of Education from Northern Illinois University. He taught business education classes, administered a work-study program, and served as department chair. He was also active in several professional organizations including the Illinois Business Education Association where he served a term as president. He retired from Leyden Schools in 2004 and moved to Smyrna, DE.
In the years in Delaware he volunteered at Bombay Hook National Wildlife Preserve and for the Delaware Read Aloud program. He was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Smyrna, serving on various committees. He was also a member of Lions International and the Dover Stamp Club. Even after moving to Delaware he remained a loyal Chicago Cubs fan and celebrated the 2016 World Series Championship.
A memorial service will be held at Peotone United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 21 at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Richard Young officiating. There will be a luncheon following the service. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations in Rogers’s name be made to Peotone United Methodist Church or Asbury United Methodist Church of Smyrna, DE.
